Quebrada de los CuervosAt almost 100 meters depth the Lake of Piedra Sola (Lonely Stone) is located. In the department of Treinta y Tres a wonderful place is located: the only real natural landscape of the region, which has been declared as protected area and national park. There unique species grow due to the climate and where the wind blows with lower intensity due to the scarpness of the surrounding hills. The Quebrada de los Cuervos is located at 45 Km from the capital of the department. In that place the river Yerbal Chico crosses the Sierra del Yerbal forming like a deep throat of more than 100 meters depth. While going down, the temperature and the air turns different. On the trees lichens of different colours can be seen, which prooves the excelent air qualityin the region. Also other species, which are very seldom in the rest of the country, can be seen in large quantity in that place. The perduration of flora and fauna, the care taken of the place and the possibility to leave this as an inheritance for future generations of a unique system is the goal of the National System of Protected Areas of the DINAMA (Dirección Nacional de Medio Ambiente). |
