Uruguay is the 8th rice exporter in the worldDuring 2008 Uruguay harvested 1:350.000 Tons of rice (new record), almost 20 % more than the year before, from which a bit more than 1.2 million tons were exported. The average price received for this export goods was of USD 362,20 per Ton, which was high in comparison to the former years. It is not expected to reach this harvest during this year, due to the lack of rain. This is causing lack of water in the rivers Olimar and Cebollatí, which are the most important rivers in the rice cultivating region. |
